Elevate Phase
Awareness
Your body is always speaking — are you listening?
"Be still, and know." — Psalm 46:10
Intention
Before you can change anything, you have to see it clearly. Awareness isn't judgment — it's honest observation. Map what your body is actually telling you so the work that follows is precise, not guesswork.
Before you can change anything, you have to see it clearly. This isn’t about fitness or aesthetics. It’s about the biological systems that everything else depends on.
Awareness means noticing without reacting. Observing without fixing. The body has been speaking to you your entire life — this is where you start listening.
Why Awareness Is a Separate Step
Most people skip this. They go straight from “I feel bad” to “What do I take?” They jump from symptom to supplement without ever mapping the terrain between the two. And they wonder why the same problems keep cycling back.
Awareness isn’t a luxury. It’s a prerequisite. Without it, every protocol you follow is guesswork — because you don’t actually know what you’re working with. You’re treating symptoms you haven’t connected to their source.
Think of it this way: if you walked into a mechanic and said “my car makes a noise sometimes,” they wouldn’t just start replacing parts. They’d ask questions. When does it happen? What kind of noise? How long has it been going on? They’d listen. They’d diagnose.
Your body deserves at least as much precision as your car gets.
The Three Tells
Maddie teaches that there are three immediate indicators of where your body actually stands — three things that tell you more than any blood panel about your baseline health:
Water. Not how much you drink — what kind. Are you hydrating at the cellular level? Is the water you consume actually entering your cells, or passing through? If you’re not at an 8 or higher on the hydration scale, everything else is compensating for that deficit.
Sleep. Not just quantity — quality. Are you getting 7-9 hours of peaceful, restful sleep? For women, that number can be closer to 11 depending on your cycle phase. If you wake up tired, if you can’t fall asleep, if you wake at 3am wired — your body is telling you something critical about your nervous system and hormonal state.
Bowel movements. This one makes people uncomfortable, and that discomfort is part of the problem. 1-2 well-formed bowel movements per day is a baseline indicator that your gut is processing, absorbing, and eliminating properly. Anything less is accumulation. Anything more could signal inflammation.
These three tells are not glamorous. They won’t trend on Instagram. But they are the most honest snapshot of your physical sovereignty you can get — no lab, no doctor, no test required. Just honesty.
The Inflammation Connection
The leading cause of disease is inflammation. Not genetics. Not bad luck. Inflammation — chronic, low-grade, systemic inflammation that runs in the background of your body like an app draining your battery.
The two most crucial elements to health are absorption and efficiency. Your body needs to absorb what you give it and use it efficiently. When inflammation is running, neither happens well. Nutrients pass through. Energy diverts to damage control. Hormones misfire because the system they depend on is compromised.
Awareness is the act of noticing where inflammation lives in your body. The bloating after meals. The brain fog at 2pm. The joint stiffness in the morning. The skin breakouts that cycle predictably. These aren’t random. They’re data. They’re your body mapping its own inflammation for you — if you’ll look.
The Fascia Connection
Your body stores experience in its tissue. Fascia — the connective web that wraps every muscle, organ, and nerve — is increasingly understood to carry emotional memory. That tightness in your shoulders isn’t just from sitting at a desk. That knot in your gut isn’t just from what you ate.
Fascia research shows that this tissue has piezoelectric properties — it generates electrical signals in response to mechanical pressure. Your body is literally a sensing instrument, converting physical experience into electrical information. Every stretch, every breath, every moment of tension or release is being registered and stored.
Awareness of fascia means awareness of your body as a living record. Not to dwell in the past, but to understand that physical release often precedes emotional release. When you work with the body — not just the mind — old patterns can finally move.
Practical Awareness
This isn’t a meditation retreat. It’s a daily practice that takes minutes:
Morning check-in. Before you reach for your phone, ask: how does my body feel right now? Rate your energy 1-10. Notice where you feel tight, heavy, or stuck. No fixing. Just noticing.
Meal awareness. After eating, wait 30 minutes and check in. Bloated? Energized? Foggy? This data tells you more about your food sensitivity than any elimination diet because it’s your body’s real-time response — not a theory.
Evening inventory. Before sleep, ask: what did my body tell me today that I almost missed? This trains your system to keep the channel open.
Three moments. Three questions. Over a week, you’ll have a more honest picture of your health than most people get from an annual physical.
Core Steps
Check In, Don't Check Out
Most of us have learned to override our body's signals — push through fatigue, ignore discomfort, suppress emotions. Awareness is the practice of reversing that pattern. Start by asking: what is my body saying right now?
The Baseline Is the Beginning
Before mindset, before identity, before income — there is the body. If your physical foundation is unstable, every other system compensates. Energy, focus, mood, relationships — they all run on what your body provides.
Name It to Navigate It
Unnamed pain stays stuck. When you name what you feel — not to fix it, just to see it — you create the space between stimulus and response. That space is where healing actually lives.
Your Body Is the Starting Point
You don't think your way into alignment — you regulate into it. The body isn't a vehicle for the mind. It's the primary instrument. Everything you experience is processed through its current state.
Practice
| Science | Sacred | Soul Practice |
|---|---|---|
| Body scan — activates interoceptive awareness | "Search me, O God, and know my heart" — Psalm 139:23 | Lie still for 3 minutes. Notice what hurts, what's tight, what's numb. |
| Journaling reduces cortisol + processes emotion | "Write the vision; make it plain" — Habakkuk 2:2 | Write down how you feel physically — no editing, no fixing. |
| Tracking creates data from sensation | "To everything there is a season" — Ecclesiastes 3:1 | Rate your energy, sleep, and mood 1-10 for three days. |
| Naming emotions activates prefrontal cortex | "And God called the light Day" — Genesis 1:5 | Say out loud: "Right now I feel ___" and let it be true. |
Reflection
"What is my body trying to tell me that I've been ignoring?"
"If I stopped performing wellness and just looked honestly — what would I see?"
"What patterns keep showing up that I haven't wanted to name?"
You can't navigate what you can't see. Awareness is the map.
